How to install

AppImage (nothing to install):

  1. Download Thot-2.1.0-x86_64.AppImage.
  2. Make it executable: chmod +x Thot-2.1.0-x86_64.AppImage.
  3. Run it: ./Thot-2.1.0-x86_64.AppImage.
  4. If FUSE 2 is not available: ./Thot-2.1.0-x86_64.AppImage --appimage-extract then ./squashfs-root/AppRun.

Flatpak (Freedesktop 26.08 runtime):

  1. Download Thot-2.1.0.flatpak.
  2. Install: flatpak install --user --reinstall -y Thot-2.1.0.flatpak.
  3. Run: flatpak run app.thot.notes.

The desktop packages are not signed by a certificate authority: on first run the system or the browser may ask for confirmation. Check the SHA-256 checksum and only proceed if it matches.

How to install

Installer: download Thot-2.1.0-Setup.exe and run it. Windows SmartScreen will show a warning because the package is unsigned: choose "More info" and then "Run anyway" only after checking the checksum.

Portable build: download Thot-2.1.0-windows-x64.zip, extract the folder and run Thot.exe. Nothing to install.

The package is unsigned. Do not download it from other sources: use this page and compare SHA-256 with Get-FileHash before opening it.

How to install

Choose the archive for your Mac:

  • Thot-2.1.0-mac-apple-silicon.zip for Macs with Apple silicon (M1 and later).
  • Thot-2.1.0-mac-intel.zip for Macs with an Intel processor.

Extract the archive, drag Thot.app into Applications and open it with the right mouse button, choosing "Open" the first time. Gatekeeper will ask for confirmation because the app is unsigned.

The package is neither signed nor notarized. If macOS blocks it, verify the checksum and use "Open" from the context menu; do not disable Gatekeeper for the whole system.

Android

How to install

The Android package is a signed APK for manual installation. When the link is active:

  1. Download Thot-2.1.0-release.apk on the phone.
  2. Open the file and allow installation from this source only for as long as needed.
  3. After installing, revoke the "install unknown apps" permission from the browser or file manager.

The Google Play listing is not public yet. The APK is signed with the production key, but it is not distributed by a store: always verify the checksum.

The .aab file is only for uploading to Play Console and cannot be installed directly on the phone.

Before opening a file

Integrity verification

Every file has its SHA-256 checksum next to the name (use Copy to copy it). The full list is in SHA256SUMS.txt. After downloading, compare the computed value with the published one.

Linux and macOS
